Dr. Gladys Rothbell
Dr. Gladys Rothbell is an experienced divorce mediator as well as a licensed therapist. She has extensive experience working as a mediator and psychotherapist with couples and families going through difficult transitions or crises. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, concentrated in family issues, and is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.).
Dr. Rothbell has been in private practice since 1993, mediating divorces as well as pre-nuptial agreements, and assisting couples and families in finding constructive resolutions for their problems.
Prior to 1993, Dr. Gladys Rothbell worked for 20 years directing projects focused on assisting couples and families experiencing problems and crises.
In these positions Dr. Rothbell:
• Assessed the unmet medical and mental health needs of Long Island families (Long Island Regional Medical/Community Health Planning)
• Evaluated special programs for children failing in school (Center for Urban Education)
• Directed research with immigrants to learn first-hand how they managed to deal with dramatic, often traumatic, changes in their lives (Stony Brook University)
• Provided job re-training and counseling for refugees and their families to help them turn a crisis into an opportunity (Institute for Families and Children)

In addition, Dr. Rothbell has taught numerous courses on marriage and the family at Stony Brook University and lectured and written extensively on the subject.
In her role as a divorce mediator, Dr. Rothbell is able to draw on her wealth of experience with couples and families facing problems and changes in their lives. As a family therapist she can make suggestions about how and when to inform children of plans for divorce, and she can provide support in what is necessarily an emotionally difficult process.
Dr. Rothbell is a certified divorce mediator. She is a member of The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and The Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York.
